This light weight foam type of backing is very innovative with its type of use.  The foam comes in one millimeter of thickness and is applied with a self-stick process.  Once applied to the wrong side of the fabric, the exterior materials has an added firmness while still being flexible to the touch.  This stabilizer can be used on heavier canvas type fabrics, all purpose decorative fabrics, cork and leather.   Best if used with a drop in lining process.   The self stick process eliminates the need for hot irons, or glue.   This is a one of a kind and gives a body to the exterior of bags in a very different way, while still giving the quality of the bags soft and flexible feel.

This suede backing is a favorite in the high-end bag making industry.  The suede backing has a thicker and very flexible hand.  Perfect for stabilizing the exterior fabric, cork or leather of a bag without the ridged stiff feel found in other stabilizers.  And it's now available at an affordable price for everyone.  The suede backing has a suede feel and flexibility with a self-stick backing eliminating the need for an iron or glue.  Application is easy by peeling the top edge of the backing, applying the top edge to the top edge surface of the wrong side of your fabric, then pressing down evenly across the backing as you slowly peel off the paper from the muslin stabilizer.   Follow up with the use of a brayer (or pastry rolling pin) by rolling back and forth over the backing onto the fabric.  Placement of backing can be adjusted by just pulling off and reapplying.   

Soft flexible backing gives exterior or lining fabric (cork or leather) more body and thickness without stiffness.  Can be used as an exterior backing stabilizer, an edge to fold down exterior top seam allowance onto its wrong side, can be edge painted, and can be used as a zipper stay.  The extent of your imagination is the only limitation in using this product.  It is a product that every workroom must have.

Salpa or Bonded Leather is a natural material which is high-performance and high-quality leather fiber used for inner linings or reinforcement on leather products. It is an excellent material to reinforce soft or thin leather. This is a high-end yet cost effective material which can be used to add reinforcement to your project. It has many uses such as lining or stabilizer in leather belts, or leather straps.  It can be used as a stabilizer inside a handbag in such areas as gussets, flaps, fronts or backs.   

This is a product made from bonded fiber leather through a process of finely milling vegetable tanned leather scraps and adding natural fat and latex as a binder.  Salpa is a natural and renewable raw materials that is considered sustainable to the environment.

Available in lengths of 55" to 60" for use in longer items like straps and belts.

This is a full kit package containing Bontex, bonded leather .06 and .04, foam backing, and cotton backing which is required for making 1 Peppermint Pattie bag.  The pricing reflects a full kit price.

The Bontex which contains .20 weight and .40 weight which is required for the pattern.   

You can choose to purchase the Bontex in a flat sheet which is big enough to cut all of the required pieces out.   The pattern direction is important with how it lays with the direction of the Bontex.  So, there will be a printed guide showing how and the direction to layout your pattern pieces. 

Another optional way to purchase the Bontex is to it buy it pre-cut in the pattern pieces required for the pattern.   There will be some extra Bontex in the kit in case you need to recut one of the pieces, however, I highly recommend purchasing 2 or more of these kits in case you need to additional or what to make additional bags.

The bonded Leather or Salpa is not precut because of it's ease in cutting.  The .04 weight is is cut in a 2" wide x about 60" wide roll which should be more than enough for crossbody strap and wristlet.  The gusset will come in a square piece and again is uncut but will be easy for anyone to cut the appropriate gusset piece from.

Option 1 -This kit is pre-cut Bontex and Texon pattern pieces needed to assemble the Peppermint Pattie handbag and does not include any other stabilizers needed for the Peppermint Pattie handbag.   This is the Bontex and Texon pieces only.   We suggest those making the Peppermint Pattie handbag to purchase an extra set of bontex pre-cut pieces, if for no other reason than your next Peppermint Pattie handbag. 

Option 2 -  This option has uncut sheets of cut Bontex and Texon the size that each student should be able to cut a bag pattern from.  Along with this will come a layout pattern (not to scale and not suggested to be used as a pattern) which will show a suggested layout.  Also, there will be a grain marked on the bontex and Texon indicating it's direction.  

We suggest all of these pieces be stored flat when they arrive from shipping and until use.

Special order.  The picture of the bag body shows a leather called Evergreen which can be ordered by the hide for a Retreat Group making the Peppermint Pattie Bag.  Shown is the Red Color.  Also available in other colors.   This picture shows beading - the actual hide does not come with beading. 

This leather is a light weight printed leather on pig suede.  The hides vary in size generally from 14 to 15.5 square feet and are priced accordingly.  The hides can be a little larger just depending.   All Leather is a product of the United States

If you would like to order 1 or more hides, please select the color and number of hides.  Once the hides are made, a final invoice will be adjusted when the actual hide is determined, and shipping is added.  Your hides will be shipped out at that point.  Once the hides go into production, these are custom orders and are non-returnable, and non-refundable. 

The course work of the Peppermint Pattie handbag is made with this weight of hide and taught with this hide.  The bag pattern is not sold to the public at this time but is only available in Handbag Retreats.   The author reserves the right to sell the Peppermint Pattie Handbag Pattern at a future date to the public.

Winged strap connectors with D shaped connectors and pronged application method.   This is the perfect hardware to use as a flap handle with an additional strap D ring for over the shoulders straps. 

 D rings measure 1 1/8" wide at flat base outside and 7/8" inside.  3/4" height on curve of D side of ring.  The center connector is 3/4" wide with each prong 5/8" long to be flattened into the sides. 

Strap connectors come in both Gold and Silver finishes.
